ABOUT US
Founded by Dominique
Drakeford and Whitney McGuire, Sustainable Brooklyn works to bridge gaps between the sustainability movement and targeted communities. With a focus on fashion, agriculture, and wellness, we reclaim sustainability by educating from an African Diasporan lens via various, intentional modalities. We are committed to fashionably fostering the evolution of sustainability
We provide access and insight to sustainability from the lens of the African diaspora to: 1) address the limitations of the current sustainability movement; and 2) implement holistic strategies that provide regenerative solutions for Black liberation - a fertile foundation upon which to thrive, unencumbered.
The current landscape of sustainability omits the voices and values of Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC), perpetuates appropriation, and thrives from a colonial framework. Through resources, events, workshops and curriculums, we provide tools to shift sustainability literacy to encompass cultural existence and celebration, economic liberation, self healing, land sovereignty and community preservation.
We collaborate and partner with a myriad of allied stakeholders in various industries, while amplifying the work and voices of targeted communities. We are the SOURCE for the evolution of sustainability. HOLLA AT US!
